My Favorite President

Abraham Lincoln

Imagine living during slavery how will you feel?  During the middle 18 hundreds Abraham Lincoln mission was to stop slavery.  First of all, Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a one room cabin in Kentucky.  He did not go to school but he loved to read and write.  He had to live a hard life because his mom Nancy Hanks died on October 5, 1818.  After that, he only lived with his father Thomas Lincoln and his sister Sarah.   His family moved to Illinois and they build a one room cabin.  Thomas went to find a stepmom for his kids. That means that Abraham and his sister had to live together with them.   Then, on December 13, 1788 his father brought home his stepmom.  At the age of 25, he studied to become a lawyer and a congressman.   When he was 31 he married Mary Todd Lincoln.  Then on March 4, 1861 he was the president of the United States.  Before he was president, one of the states to secede was South Carolina.  6 more states followed and they formed their own country called the Confederate States.  Then the Civil War started it was the United Sates called the Union vs the Confederate States.  In that war, 600,000 people died.  The Union won the war.  On November 19, 1863 Abraham Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address it means that we are all equal.  On January 1, 1865 he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to free all the slaves.  He also gave hope to people who were slaves.  Sadly, Abraham Lincoln got shot when he was 56 years old at Petersen House, Washington, D.C.  He got shot by a man named John Wilkes Booth.  He was the first president to be assassinated.  He made such a great impact on our world that there are statues of him like in Mount Rushmore and Lincoln Memorial.  However, Abraham Lincoln died at a very young age he has brought hope and peace in our world.
